One in Three, Three in One -
On this Holy Saturday - a day between death and resurrection, peril and hope - we join Job’s prayer - If mortals die, will they live again?
On this Holy Saturday - a day of mourning, a day where time freezes and continues - we remember the removal of Jesus’ body from the cross.
We remember the aroma of 100 pounds of myrrh and aloes.
We remember the burial rites - the taking of Jesus’ body, the brushing of the myrrh and aloes across his naked vulnerability, the wrapping of his body in linen cloths.
We remember the garden that held a new tomb - the tomb in which they laid Jesus.
We remember…and we wait for the tree that was cut down to sprout again.
Amen.
(Additional Revised Common Lectionary texts for Holy Saturday include Job 14:1-14, Psalm 31:1-4, 15-16, and 1 Peter 4:1-8.)
