Jesus -
Again and again you place before us parables to explain the reign of heaven.
The reign of heaven is a tree in which birds come and make nests in its branches. May we be deeply rooted and hospitable like that tree.
The reign of heaven is a woman who takes yeast and mixes it until all is leavened. May we, like that woman, intentionally nourish, so all may rise.
The reign of heaven is a hidden treasure in a field which someone joyfully buys after selling all their possessions. May we give thanks for the One who sees our treasure and joyfully gives everything for us.
The reign of heaven is a merchant who sells all that he has to buy one pearl of great value. May we be like that searching merchant and risk it all for one pearl.
The reign of heaven is a net that catches fish of every kind. May we be like that net and hold every kind and trust the Fisher of our souls to sort the good and the bad - within ourselves and our communities.
Rooted. Hospitable. Nourishing. Soul-Honoring. Joyful Giving. Searching. Risking. Holder of All.
Jesus, you ask, “Have you understood all this?” Soften our hearts, so we may respond, “Yes.”
May the reign of heaven break into and transform our lives on earth.
Amen.
